While many getting into real estate focus on the residential side of sales real estate offers an extremely wide variety of areas to specialize in such as residential trading services, rental property management, strata management, appraisal, mortgage financing, commercial trading services and leasing, farm trading services, investment real estate, land development, counseling and research.

Other Licensing Services
Once you become a licensed real estate agent in BC you can upgrade your education to further your career. Most agents in BC are selling real estate, managing properties or providing trading services. Should you choose to become an associate broker or managing broker you may wish to take the Broker’s Licensing Course at UBC. To enroll in the course you must have been licensed for at least six months and to be actually licensed as a representative for a minimum of two years. If you are licensed to offer trading services or rental property management services can be licensed to provide both services by taking the related Supplemental Course at UBC (Real Estate Division). For more information contact the Sauder School of Business at UBC.
Are you licensed as an agent somewhere else in North America and want to become licensed in BC?
If you are licensed somewhere else in North America the real Estate Council of BC exempts individuals from the Real Estate Trading Licensing Course but not the exam. This only applies of you held an active real estate license in Quebec, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, Yukon, Northwest and Nunavut Territories, or the United States for not less than one (1) year during the three (3) years preceding application.
If you are licensed in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Nova Scotia are exempt from the Real Estate Trading Services Licensing Course and can write the BC Inter-Provincial Real Estate Exam only if they have:
A) Met all licensing requirements within their jurisdiction in the year preceding the application.
OR
B) Been licensed for no less than one year in the three years before you apply. If you meet either one of these exemptions you can find out more information at the Real Estate Council Of BC’s website
